Thoughts for Day Three

One of the attractions for me of this challenge from the very beginning has been the real challenge facing everyone on this planet. That is how do we feed ourselves in sustainable way as the population continues to grow. It is a big complicated issue that will not be solved with one simplified solution but with many varied approaches that combine advancing technologies, global thinking, with local realities.

On advancing technologies, all methods that allow us to produce more with less while at the same time sustaining our environment cannot be dismissed without careful consideration.

On global thinking, the food issue is a global issue. There are parts of the world that simply cannot feed itself, There are other parts of the world that are capable of producing far more than it needs.

On local reality that is seen around the world is the inability of large parts of a region's population to pay for the food it needs. By framing extreme poverty in this manner, it becomes easier to see how the local realities in different parts of the world can be very different. For this reason, solutions cannot always be the same.
